David PriceDavid Price, a Civil Engineer, Registered Valuer and 3rd year MBL, registered the first Manprop company in Johannesburg in 1974 after having studied and been involved in the drafting of the first sectional titles act (Act 66 of 1971). The company’s main objective being specialists at sectional title conversion, to advise and assist property owners, to market their units and act as sectional title administrators. From humble beginnings the company progressed from converting five large blocks of apartments in Killarney to syndicating the purchase and conversion of our own properties. Hence the name manprop, which is an anagram for “managed properties”.

Manprop later opened offices on Tyrwhitt Avenue in Rosebank, Johannesburg and expanded with a building society agency, Manprop Construction undertaking renovation, Manprop Electrical doing electrical contracting, Mode Flooring in carpeting and flooring, Gypclad walling and ceilings and finally Mode 2000 building exhibition centre.

In 1989, following the downturn in the property market, David and his family moved to Cape Town, where after having established Semble-It kitchens and selling out after a year, re-established Manprop Realtors. Over the last 20 years, with a five year break whilst David served as a Cape Town City Councillor, Manprop has made a name for itself in the Cape Town and Western Cape property market. “We have pioneered sectional title sub-division and conversion of a number of industrial and commercial complexes in Observatory and Woodstock, two notable schemes being Price’s Industrial Park and Five Howe Street. We are particularly proud of Five Howe Street as it was one of the first multi-use commercial, industrial and residential loft apartment conversions in Cape Town and a pioneer in loft apartment developments. A city building, Highcastle House and adjacent Market Cars building on Loop Street was sectionalized”, says David.

Out in the country at Montagu, Manprop sectionalized two blocks of flats and developed a small township of 14 erven. We also developed Cairnside, a township of 63 erven at Glencairn near Simon’s Town overlooking False Bay.
Over the years we have attended to the opening of close to 100 sectional title registers, including Helderberg Village in Somerset West, and numerous Share Block developments.

Manprop has been involved with the development of a holiday scheme on the GouKou River called Riverside at Stilbaai. We are now into a second phase of this sought after scheme having obtained the rights to develop a further 30 houses on 107 hectares of land.

We proved ourselves to be innovative in the property market and specialists in sectional title and share block developments.
